** JOSEPH R. BIDEN IS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! KAMALA D. HARRIS IS VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! HALLELUJAH!
------------------------------------------------------------
**
For over a year we have had a tag at the top of the newsletter either counting down to Election Day or counting down to Inauguration Day. No more tag!
Joe Biden is our President and Kamala Harris is our Vice President. Democrats have the House. Democrats control the Senate. We have a trifecta. But, it’s not the time to relax. There is much more work to do locally, statewide and to fight for our Democracy on the federal level.

FEDERAL
As we move forward in our country, let’s remember these words President Biden said during his inauguration speech yesterday:
“This is a great nation. We are good people. And over the centuries, through storm and strife, in peace and in war, we've come so far. But we still have far to go. We'll press forward with speed and urgency, for we have much to do in this winter of peril and significant possibilities, much to repair, much to restore, much to heal, much to build, and much to gain.”

President Biden wasted no time in getting to work by signing Executive Orders. The three he signed Wednesday included:
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Rejoining the Paris Agreement, an international treaty on the climate crisis.
2. Mandating masks and social distancing on federal properties.
3. Supporting underserved communities through equity and equality.
There will be more Executive Orders signed in the coming days.

Mask Ordinance Passed
On Tuesday, the Indian River County Commissioners voted 4 – 1 (Flescher voted no) to extend the mask ordinance for 6 months instead of the 2 months they have been approving since July 2020. The regulations require face coverings for anyone entering a county building, for people using public transportation and for employees of businesses serving the public.
"A six-month extension is good to provide continuity," said Commissioner Susan Adams. "You're not going to jump-start the economy until people feel comfortable moving around and spending their money."
The ordinance expires on July 13, 2021.

Food Bank Donations
Thank you to the wonderful Democrats who donated food and hygiene products last week on the Martin Luther King Day of Service in honor of the Inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Thank you to Claudia and Adria for delivering the donations!!

TIDBITS
Newsletter Reboot, 2.0
This week you will see that our newsletter has changed. We will be taking a more pro-active approach to the work that needs to be done over the next four years. We need to get our work underway that will educate and involve our Democrats of Indian River County more.
We know many of you are feeling a sense of helplessness right now. We are living through a pandemic, we aren’t attending events, we are stuck in our homes, and our country is polarized by division. We hope that you will take this time to learn, engage and prepare for our upcoming state legislative session and other government activities in our county and at the federal level. And, we plan to help you do that.
Below is a short, 2 minute survey. Please let us know how you like the new layout, the presentation of information and if there is anything else you would like to see.
