It’s a new day in America, with a new president and vice president, a Democratic-led House and Senate, and a whole lot of work to do.

While we work to unite and make progress on the issues that matter to the people, we cannot forget about what happened just two short weeks ago: a violent insurrection on the U.S. Capitol.

This failed coup was incited by former President Trump, who was rapidly impeached for his wrongful actions. But it was also encouraged by far-right Senator and Trump loyalist, Senator Josh Hawley.

Hawley led the charge to “stop the steal” and overturn the results of our democratic elections, raising his fist in the air in solidarity with the vicious mob who went on to desecrate our nation’s Capitol. Even after witnessing the damage done, including the loss of five lives that day, Hawley pressed on and voted to invalidate the election results of Pennsylvania and Arizona in a hopeless, last-ditch attempt to keep Trump in power.

Hawley is a traitor to our democracy and to the oath he swore to uphold. For that reason, he must be expelled from the Senate ASAP.

Our nation’s Capitol has not come under siege like it did on January 6th since 1814, and even though Trump may be out of the White House, we know his dangerous, far-right movement still lingers.

We must make it clear that we have zero tolerance for those who incite and inspire violent attacks against our democracy here in the halls of Congress.
