Uplands Village
A Natural Choice for Retirement

Being an environmentally responsible and ecologically sustainable retirement community is the natural choice of the Uplands Board, staff and residents. Our goal as faithful stewards of God’s good earth is to create a healthier environmental future for generations to come. These are just a few of the ways this “green” Life Plan Community is achieving this:

Certified Wildlife Habitat

The National Wildlife Federation recently designated Uplands a Certified Wildlife Habitat. Most of our intentionally undeveloped 500-acre campus with its open fields, clean lakes and natural woodlands, as well as our purposeful soil and water conservation methods practiced by staff and residents alike, make Uplands an ideal habitat for the rich variety of native plants, birds, fish and animals that thrive here.

Endangered Species Protection

Uplands is part of the TN Bluebird Society project to increase the dwindling Eastern bluebird population. Many residents here install, monitor and report nest box activity in their yards and along some of our trails on campus. Others plant milkweed to feed monarch butterflies on their annual migration path. Our resident beekeepers work to restore the population of these essential pollinators.

Renewable Energy Initiative

Our resident-initiated and led Solar Initiative Project intends to make Pleasant Hill, where Uplands Village is located, one of the first renewable energy towns in TN.

Watershed Restoration Project

The Uplands Environmental Sustainability & Stewardship Committee and the Obed Watershed Assn. just completed a grant-supported wetlands restoration planting project at Uplands to support healthy biodiversity of the streams feeding our lakes.

Uplands Trail Maintenance

Many of our residents have “adopted” a trail or a trail segment to maintain, and several have built trail benches and bridges in our resident woodworking shop. We’re now planning to create a new handicap-access trail for our assisted living, skilled nursing rehab and long-term care residents to enjoy.

Organic Gardening

Many of our independent-living residents choose to raise fruit and vegetables on their properties.  Like these gardens, Uplands has also grown organically over the years. Unlike so many other retirement communities, there’s nothing “plastic” or cookie-cutter about it!

These are just some of the many ways we work to maintain the beauty of Uplands, the health of our community and the preservation of our environment for the benefit of countless generations to come. Uplands Village is a Life Plan Community offering a full spectrum of residential accommodations and healthcare services including independent living, assisted living, memory care, long-term care, short-term rehabilitation and home health care options.
