You may have heard of a new bill, HB1 or "The Combating Violence, Disorder and Looting and Law Enforcement Protection Act." It has been dubbed the "Anti-Protest" bill by some and next Wednesday it will come before me in the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Subcommittee.

This bill was drafted in the wake of Black Lives Matter protests last summer and it was released only minutes after Trump supporters rioted and committed insurrection inside the U.S. Capitol. Here's a link to a summarizing news story, and here's the bill's language.

To be honest, I'm very conflicted for a variety of reasons. I completely support the Constitutional right to assemble and protest, but nobody wants to see the kind of violent riots that Trump unleashed last week.

I'd love to get your feedback and thoughts on this bill so I can be best prepared for Wednesday's hearing. You can reply, but I'd also appreciate you completing this short survey so I can keep a tally of where folks stand on this bill.

Thank you in advance for completing the survey, it is my most sincere hope that I can accurately represent our community's position on this and ask the right questions on Wednesday.
