Jack, the swearing in of the new Democratic Senate majority with two new senators from Georgia is the best possible way to start the Biden era, and it wouldn't have been possible without you.
Daily Kos declared after Trump's victory back in 2016 that we would "resist Trump every single day for the next four years and beyond." We did.
Just a week after Trump's inauguration, on January 28, 2017, we endorsed our first candidate of the new era: Jon Ossoff, who was running a special election for the House in Georgia. We were the first national group to support Ossoff, and the response was overwhelming. Daily Kos readers and activists poured in an unbelievable $400,000 in the first week after our endorsement. Our early involvement drew huge national attention to the race, as the New York Times recently wrote, and helped make Ossoff a household name. Ossoff fell just short, but he showed that Democrats could compete in once-red turf—and in fact, Democrat Lucy McBath (whom we also backed) flipped that same district the next year.
Immediately after Election Day 2020, as the results in several states were still unclear, Daily Kos Elections was the first group of election experts to point out that the Senate majority would likely come down to Georgia's runoff elections this month. And now, Democrats have won that majority with none other than Jon Ossoff taking one of the seats that broke Mitch McConnell's majority.
Our endorsements of Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock in Georgia's majority-making runoff elections weren't one-off actions for us. They were part of a four-year strategic campaign to find the weak points in the Republican Party's grip on power and break them. No other group in the country combines independent electoral analysis with direct activism like this.
A contribution to Daily Kos is an investment that will pay dividends for the Democratic Party, the progressive movement, and the country for years. That's why I'm asking you to start a $5 monthly recurring contribution to Daily Kos today. Our victories in Georgia this month and across the country in November were just the beginning. The hard work of governing begins now, and Daily Kos will fight back against Republican obstruction to deliver progressive change. Please click here to start a $5 monthly recurring contribution now.
