Brad Lander for NYC Comptroller [[link removed]]Dear John,

Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman said it best today: “We’ve seen a force that would shatter our nation rather than share it….This effort very nearly succeeded.”

We’re still grappling with the harm and suffering that the Trump administration left us -- so many loved ones lost, families separated, and a deadly health and economic crisis still raging. And so much of the racial and economic injustice we see today has far deeper roots in our history.

But for all its flaws, I really, truly, deeply love the possibilities for a country where we watched Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor give the oath of office to Vice President Kamala Harris today.

As we begin the work of repairing so much harm from these last four years, we must recommit to building a more just, more equitable society that better shares both democracy and prosperity.

We need leadership in Washington to do that work, of course. But much of it is on us locally too. If you’re able, can you chip in $5 to help me bring a just and equitable recovery to NYC as our next Comptroller? [[link removed]]

As I write, President Biden is signing executive orders to reverse the Muslim Ban, preserve DACA, and end the Keystone XL pipeline once and for all. It is due to organizing and movement building that those acts were among the first on his list.

If there’s one thing that we can take from the last four years, it is that when we come together around our shared values, we give ourselves and each other the strength to keep fighting for the better world we know we deserve.

If you’re able, please chip in $5 to help me bring the goals of movements for racial justice, climate action, and a fair economy to the NYC Comptroller’s office. [[link removed]]

I’m not expecting miracles from the Biden Administration, but I have a lot of confidence in the power of our solidarity to win a better future.

In other words, what we’ve got is a fighting chance. So let’s get to it.

Brad
