John,

I want to congratulate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

Let us take a moment to soak in the hope and relief of that statement. President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

I pray for their success and for all of us as we move into this next chapter in our nation’s history.

This is the day we spent the past four years organizing nonstop toward. Our democracy was tested time and time again, but today we sent a resounding message to the world: America’s democracy is strong. And it is your work that made all of it possible.

Now it is our duty in in Congress and in the Biden-Harris Administration to live up to our commitments to the people of this great nation — to get to work to help those among us who are struggling, those who have lived in fear these past four years, those who put their faith in us to build a better and more just America.

It was an honor and privilege to witness the historic event at our nation’s Capitol today.

A Black and Indian-American woman shattered one of the highest and hardest glass ceilings — sworn in by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina to ever sit on our nation’s highest court.

Women and girls across the country finally saw themselves reflected at the highest levels of our government today. Vice President Harris is the first, but she will not be the last. Millions of little girls will grow up seeing this as normal. They will aspire to the highest heights, and they will prevail.

I also want to congratulate our two new Senators from Georgia. My dear friends and now colleagues Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock were sworn in just moments ago. A new day is truly dawning for all of us.

The past four years tested all of us in unique ways, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for not growing weary. I hope you find the time to celebrate and breathe a great sigh of relief.

As President Biden said, now is the moment for us to heal and to unite. Tomorrow, our work begins, and I look forward to continuing that fight alongside you and this movement.

With deep appreciation and hope,

- Lucy McBath
