Hello John,

AXIOS is reporting that assuming the tie-breaking vote in the Senate will be a “political challenge” for Kamala Harris.

“Harris will now assume the role during only the second 50-50 split Senate during the past 60 years. Congress is facing the prospect of major legislation addressing the coronavirus, comprehensive immigration reform and voting rights.”

But according to AXIOS, using the tie-breaking vote could provide “fodder” for Republican opponents and impact Harris' prospects for 2024.

That warning didn't seem to apply to the former vice president. Mike Pence cast more tie-breaking votes than any vice president in modern history, including to repeal the Affordable Care Act and confirm Betsy DeVos.

We don't think a gendered double-standard should keep Kamala Harris from exercising her right to break legislative ties in the Senate. But today, we need to know where our supporters stand. Please, tell us now:

Should Kamala Harris refrain from using her tie-breaking vote?
