January 2021

Dear John,

Today, we can look forward together, as a nation. The inauguration of President Biden and Vice President Harris represents a new chapter. But a new administration doesn’t mean threats to rivers and drinking water disappear. This is no time to back down or let down our guard. Now is the time to get to work.

We must undo the damage done to rivers and clean over the last four years. And, we have an opportunity to make major advances for healthy rivers and clean water nationwide.

It’s why we’re kicking off 100 Days for Rivers, a campaign to make sure healthy rivers and clean water are a top priority for the Biden-Harris administration in their first 100 days. Let’s make this moment count – for our rivers, each other, and our future.

Healthy rivers = a strong economy
Our report, “Rivers as economic engines” makes the case for boosting federal spending on water infrastructure and river restoration to $500 billion over ten years, and presents a framework for equitable investment that will strengthen communities nationwide.

In defense of democracy
Healthy rivers need a healthy democracy. That means demanding accountability for the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, denouncing white supremacy and bigotry that poisons our country, and recommitting ourselves to justice and equity.

THANK YOU!

Thank you to Nite Ize for their support of our work to protect and restore America’s rivers.
