After the January 6th insurrection at our Capitol, today’s inauguration of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris is nothing short of joyful. I know that this Administration will renew what makes America truly great -- liberty, equality, and justice for all.

The truth is Joe and Kamala didn’t get here by luck. Americans everywhere stood up and said enough is enough. You donated, volunteered, and voted to kick Donald Trump out of office and restore competency and compassion to the White House. So thank you, for all you’ve done.

Americans across the country mobilized in support of a progressive Democratic agenda. And while we succeeded in electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, the real work of instituting our progressive priorities begins now. The American people have given Joe and Kamala a mandate to work for a Democratic agenda, and we must immediately begin the work that the American people have sent us to do.

We must pass the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Act, which is long overdue and critical to ending voter suppression. We must pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act to begin the long process of finally confronting the centuries of racism and violence towards people of color in our country. Last week, we saw the tragic consequence of D.C.’s colonial status, and we must finally grant D.C. statehood. And we must ensure COVID-19 vaccines are distributed as efficiently as possible and American families are supported through the end of this crisis.

These are just a few of the many priorities the American people have called upon Joe, Kamala, and myself and my colleagues in Congress to pursue. We must heed that call.
