President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have a lot of work in front of them.

Dear,

On this Inauguration Day, we celebrate the millions of voters and organizers, like you, who registered, mobilized, and turned out for a historic election -- one that puts us back on a pathway to equity and justice and brings us our first Black, South Asian American, and woman Vice President with Kamala Harris.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Harris have a lot of work in front of them as our country grapples with the hard realities of the COVID pandemic, a surge in public, violent white supremacy, and the failed leadership of the many elected leaders who protected their own interests over the safety and wellbeing of our families. And that means it’s our time to get to work, too, and continue what we started with the election. It’s time to reimagine our democracy and ensure the leaders that we elect serve and represent all of us.

It won’t be easy. We’ve just been through four devastating years of unconstitutional leadership, inhumane policies, and violence and trauma. The January 6 white supremacist insurrection was a stark reminder of the ingrained injustices and state-sanctioned violence that still permeate our democracy. But we also have a long history of resistance and resilience led by Black, Indigenous, and people of color communities that drives our movement and is the backbone of the democracy we deserve now. We have a clear vision of healthcare for all, a Green New Deal, criminal justice reform, and other community priorities. We have the power to take actions to make that vision of democracy more real every day.

So join us in celebrating the new Biden and Harris administration, and make a commitment to work alongside us for the change we need now in our country. With Courage, we can wield our people power to fight for equity, justice, and accountability and a government that represents all of us.

In solidarity,

Irene, along with Angela, Annie, Caitlin, Deepthi, Jay, Lindsay, LisaMarie, Molly, Raquel, and Scottie (the Courage team)
