Take action on this Inauguration Day.
Drug Policy Alliance
Friend,

It’s Inauguration Day and we look forward to working with President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Congress to advance drug policy reform across the country.

For far too long, the drug war has taken root in our everyday lives, harming millions of people, and disproportionately impacting low-income and Black and Brown communities. But with your help and as our election victories showed, we’ve made unprecedented progress to undo the damage and build overwhelming public support for reform.

Our work is far from over, and this new administration brings new opportunities for change. Please tell President Biden, Vice President Harris, and your Members of Congress to make drug policy reform a federal priority.

There are several concrete steps they can take right away that will have a significant impact toward ending the drug war. Our recommendations include:
  • Following Oregon’s lead and moving forward the decriminalization of all drugs while increasing access to health and harm reduction services like naloxone access, overdose prevention centers, and evidence-based drug treatment.
  • Responding to COVID-19 by letting at-risk people out of jails and prisons and helping end mass incarceration driven by the drug war.
  • Legalizing marijuana at the federal level that’s centered in racial and social justice by passing the groundbreaking MORE Act in Congress and signing it into law.
  • Dismantling the Drug Enforcement Administration and moving federal resources away from futile law enforcement strategies that rely on aggressive policing, criminalization, and incarceration as the default tools for dealing with drugs and drug use.
  • Permanently removing barriers and increasing access to life-saving treatments and harm reduction services for people who use drugs.
Although the country is under new leadership, we face many of the same challenges. We must continue to stay focused on dismantling failed drug war policies and creating a new way forward.

We won’t back down and we need you to stand with us to keep the pressure on. Join us by taking action to help us advance drug policy reform nationwide.

Sincerely,

Maritza Perez
