The American tradition of ensuring a peaceful transition of power serves as one of our nation’s greatest accomplishments. It reinforces the values enshrined in our Constitution and signifies the impenetrable force behind our democracy. That peaceful transfer of power was in jeopardy earlier this month, but thankfully we are moving forward today with a new administration.

After four long years, we have new leaders to call the president and vice president of the United States. I am thrilled to do so.

Now, we can finally work towards our shared goals as Americans. We can put the divisive rhetoric and hateful actions of the past administration behind us.
