I am hopeful today, friend. Today, the nation and the world watched as President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were officially sworn in. I was honored to witness the will of the voters affirmed—and the door to meaningful progress pushed back open. Donald Trump incited violence just a few weeks ago at the Capitol in a brazen attempt to stop the will of the voters. But he failed. Today marks the beginning of the hard road to rebuilding America. And I’m ready to get to work with this new administration to get things done. With new leadership, we can finally act on urgent priorities like comprehensive COVID-19 relief for individuals and small businesses, bolstering our public infrastructure, lowering prescription drug prices, and climate change. For the past four years Donald Trump and his allies have obstructed progress at every turn, all while millions of vulnerable Americans fell on hard financial times through no fault of their own; endured extreme weather conditions wrought by climate change; and battled a global pandemic with inadequate federal government support. That ends now. Americans rejected that version of America at the ballot box in November, and now it’s on us to create a more equitable, more sustainable future for everyone. I can’t wait to get to work, alongside my new colleagues and this new administration, to make that happen. If you’re with me, let me know, friend.
