At Power to Decide, we know that everybody loves birth control. There are a variety of reasons for this love, but one of the major ones is that birth control enables women to get pregnant and have a child on their own timelines and terms. When that happens, we all benefit.
If that isn’t reason enough to love birth control, consider these facts:
Studies show that access to birth control has led to some significant educational and professional gains for women over the last five decades. In 1970, only 55% of women age 25 and older had a high school diploma. Today, that number is 90%.
And before birth control was made legal for all women, there were no female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies. That's right - zero. Today, there are more than 30.
Research also suggests that the next generation benefits when women have children when they want to. More than three-quarters of women say that birth control allows them to take better care of themselves and their families.
And did we mention that birth control is a good investment? Approximately $7 is saved for every $1 invested in contraception.
As you can see, there are plenty of reasons to celebrate birth control. And I encourage you to start now because today is World Contraception Day!
Birth control makes so much possible for people around the world. That's why we're working to make sure everyone has access, especially people right here in the United States.
