It's Time to Reimagine the Wisconsin Economy

Wisconsin families should be able to thrive, plain and simple. But the intertwined challenges of the pandemic, the recession, and racial injustice have laid bare the degree to which we need to transform Wisconsin’s economy before we can say that everyone has access to opportunity.

With Wisconsin's economy in disarray, we face the challenge of a lifetime: strengthening Wisconsin businesses, protecting Wisconsin families, and building up Wisconsin communities.

But we shouldn’t—and in fact we can’t—try to rebuild our economy the way it was before the collapse. To do so would be to buy back into a system purposefully designed to systematically marginalize people of color and enrich only a few.

Instead, we must use this moment to enact transformative change with the goal of constructing a new, more equitable economy. The new economy must value every resident of Wisconsin and dismantle the systemic oppression that has harmed African Americans and other people of color for generations.

Our new budget agenda, Reimagine Wisconsin, lays out key strategies for transforming our system and moving Wisconsin forward on a path to an equitable economy.
