This is such an exciting moment -- there is so much to celebrate today as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are inaugurated as our next president and vice president.
A record-breaking 81 million Americans gave Joe and Kamala a mandate to heal this country, to defeat this pandemic, and to restore people's faith in our government.
Their inauguration marks the end of the Trump Administration's phony populism and broken promises and the beginning of new leadership committed to healing our country and building it back better so it works for everyone -- not just those at the top. Joe Biden campaigned as the Dignity of Work candidate, and now, with a Democratic Senate majority to back him up, we're going to govern that way.
While the pain of the recent attack on our Capitol and our democracy by white supremacist domestic terrorists is still fresh in our minds, today, democracy prevails.
And we cannot lose sight of the history being made - my granddaughters and girls all over the country are watching Kamala Harris take the oath today, finally shattering the glass ceiling in the White House. Girls, especially Black and brown girls, will know there is no dream -- no office -- too high for them.
We're now on a path toward creating meaningful change in our country that makes a real difference in people's lives, and we've made it here because of grassroots activists like you, who never gave up on our democracy. I'm so grateful for all you do for our grassroots movement.
This is a great day for our country, one filled with hope for our future and celebration of what we can achieve together, and I'm so glad I can celebrate it with dedicated supporters like you.
With gratitude,
Sherrod
