This is what we’ve all been waiting for, John.
Today, Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United States. Senator Kamala Harris will become Vice President Kamala Harris -- the first woman, African-American, and South Asian to serve in the role. This is a historic moment in our nation’s history.
After four long years, Donald Trump will finally vacate the White House along with his lies, tweets, and regressive politics of fear and hate. We have work ahead of us, but I hope we can all take a moment to celebrate everything we accomplished since 2016 to get our country back on track.
I'm so proud that we have finally elected a woman to serve in the White House. I'll never forget the day Vice President-elect Harris came to my district back in 2018. We visited with Marines at Camp Pendleton and thanked them for their service. I was struck by her sincerity and deep respect for our military and their families.
Today isn’t about political parties. Today is about unifying and moving forward as one. And while things have been challenging in our nation’s capital, I remain hopeful about what the future holds for all Americans.
I look forward to working with the President, Vice President, and my colleagues in the House to deliver much-needed pandemic relief and rebuild our economy. The important work begins on day one.
Thanks for all you’ve done. Now, let’s keep moving forward.
Onward,
Mike
