Biden Actions a Promising Step toward Bipartisan Reform
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sweeping immigration changes feature prominently in the Biden administration’s day one plans — and underscore the historic opportunity for bipartisan immigration reform in 2021.
"The incoming Biden administration’s bill and anticipated executive actions are welcome steps in the right direction," said Ali Noorani, President and CEO of the National Immigration Forum. "They will help American families, workers and communities, and they lay a strong foundation for bipartisan solutions from Congress."
With that goal in mind amid a split Senate, more than 180 organizations, companies and individuals signed on to a statement Tuesday expressing support for bipartisan immigration reform. "Strong leadership and bipartisanship from Congress and the administration, starting on day one, are critical to build an immigration system that works for U.S. families, grows our economy, and strengthens communities across our nation while welcoming immigrants who seek to contribute as critical partners in our society," the
statement reads.
The new administration’s plans are a positive first sign that the administration is focusing on immigration priorities the Forum has identified as having potential for bipartisan support.
"Today’s first steps are not just smart policies — they should have bipartisan appeal," Noorani said. "We look forward to working with Congress and with Americans who want to create immigration processes that uphold our values, enhance our security and set all Americans up for success."
