It goes without saying, but 2020 did not go as planned. I’m sure that just like me, you’re more ready than ever for the fresh start that 2021 will bring!

Thank you for sticking by us as we navigated those challenging months. Your support and trust in our lung health expertise enable us to continue to provide our community with valuable information, resources, and support to help combat the spread of COVID-19. For instance, yesterday we hosted a "COVID-19 and the Vaccine" webinar where you had the opportunity to learn all about the new vaccines from Reza Ronaghi, MD, a Pulmonologist at UCLA Medical Center. You can follow this link to watch a recording of the webinar.
We have many more events in store for you throughout this new year, which we will feature in future "In the Air" snapshots.

How to Be Prepared for Potential Emergencies
Tips from Southern California Edison & Breathe Southern California
As we learned in 2020, an emergency can happen at any time. Whether an earthquake, a wildfire, or a pandemic comes our way, preparedness will help everyone cope better and stay safer. You can help your family be prepared for any emergency with a safety preparedness plan and basic supplies.
Keep necessities on hand — from medical prescriptions to canned goods. It is the first step in being ready for an emergency. Keep a supply of essentials in an easily accessible location, so you will be able to get to them quickly, even in the dark.
Here is a list of things you should have in your supply kit:
1. First aid kit including your family's medications (check periodically to ensure they are not expired)
2. Special-needs items for infants, the elderly, and family members with disabilities
3. Extra batteries
4. Flashlight
5. Coolers and ice chests
6. Battery-powered radio to listen to news reports
7. Bottled water – at least a gallon per person for each day
8. Non-perishable food that does not require cooking
9. Manual can opener
10. Landline phone with cord (not cordless)
If you depend on electrically powered medical equipment, plan to have a backup power source. You may be eligible for SoCal Edison's Medical Baseline program. Learn about the program and how to apply at sce.com/medicalbaseline or call at 1-800-655-4555.

Achieve Your New Year's Resolution to Help the Environment!
Despite everyone driving less, air pollution is at an all-time high. More and bigger wildfires and the dramatic increase in diesel trucks due to the explosion of online shopping are major sources of this pollution. So many of us are striving to reduce our personal carbon footprint for the new year. One of the best ways to do this is by adopting your own “pollution resolution” to reduce your transportation emissions! Did you know that gas-powered vehicles release about 1.7 billion tons of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere each year?
We know it can be difficult to rely on public transportation in Southern California, especially with the new social distancing difficulties brought by the pandemic. But, lucky for you, you can continue to drive a personal vehicle AND reduce your carbon emissions at the same time by switching to a Zero Emission Vehicle! Money is available to Southern Californians to reduce their cost of a new or used electric or hydrogen vehicle. Learn more about how you can save up to $9,500 by switching to a Zero Emission Vehicle at our next virtual Ride and Drive webinar on January 30th!
