John,

100 years ago, the 19th Amendment granted full citizenship through the right to vote to some women.

56 years ago, America abolished laws that disenfranchised Black Americans through the Voting Rights Act.

37 years ago, a woman ran on a major party’s presidential ticket for the first time, then considered a monumental risk.

And just over 4 years ago, the only woman to ever win the presidential nomination of a major party suffered a devastating defeat fueled by misogyny.

But today a new vice president-elect will step forward to take the oath of office. And for the first time in American history, she is not a man.

Kamala Devi Harris, a daughter of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, will be a heartbeat away from the presidency, becoming the highest-ranking woman in America's 244-year existence. Not only will she be the first woman Vice President, she will represent this nation's recommitment to progress in living up to the nation's highest ideals.

Today, women took a giant step forward towards breaking that final glass ceiling. We should celebrate our achievements today -- but that doesn't mean we can take our foot off the gas.

A Woman's Place is in this fight for the long haul. Right now, the voices of women -- half of our country's population -- do not have equal representation in elected offices at the local, state, or federal levels. It is up to us to change that. If we want to see women properly represented in our national leadership, if we want to break that final glass ceiling, then we need to help them get there by supporting their campaigns and defending their rightful place in politics.

We need to raise another $4,000 by TONIGHT to continue our critical work of ensuring women have a seat at the table. On this historic day, we're hoping we can count on you to help us sustain this long-term fight for equal representation, which is why we're asking now: Can we count on you to contribute $10, $25, $50, or anything you're able to right now to show your support for Vice President Kamala Harris and ensure women continue to succeed in our political system? >> [link removed]

Thank you for standing with us in this historic moment.

Today will forever serve as a reminder of what we can accomplish together.

Let's create a future where little girls and women everywhere know there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Our work continues,

A Woman's Place
