We wanted to follow up about Mark's message, John.

26,000 people have already signed the petition urging President-elect Biden to make universal background checks a top priority – but you haven't added your name yet.

With children's lives at stake, we urgently need to push the new administration to take action immediately on this lifesaving bipartisan legislation.

There isn't a moment to waste. But we're still short of the 30,000 signatures we need on our petition, and we're counting on you to add your name. Will you sign our petition now urging President-elect Biden to prioritize passing universal background checks legislation?

Subject: Tell President-elect Biden: Prioritize universal background checks!

John, this is a crucial, crucial moment.

President-elect Biden will take office in just a few days, and the new Congress has already been sworn in. That means this is our best opportunity in eight years to finally pass bipartisan background checks legislation – legislation we know will prevent future tragedies.

When the Senate failed to pass background check legislation after my sweet little Daniel was murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary, it absolutely crushed me – but I refused to give up.

This is the moment we've been working toward for eight years – and with children's lives at risk every day we don't take action, we can't afford to wait any longer.

That's why we need to gather 30,000 signatures by Tuesday to urge President-elect Biden to make passing universal background checks one of his top priorities. We're running out of time, so will you please sign our petition right now?

I can never get Daniel back. All I can do is work every single day to give him a legacy beyond his too-short life and prevent other parents from experiencing the horror of having a child taken by gun violence. I could never thank you enough for all you do to help make that possible.

Mark Barden (Daniel's father)
