Friends,
This is a historic day for our country. After four years of division and neglect from the Trump White House, today Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will take their oaths of office to become the next president and vice president of the United States.
As a mom to two little girls, I am particularly proud to see America’s first female, Black, and South Asian vice president sworn into office. Kamala Harris has shattered another glass ceiling for our daughters’ generation. And as the wife of a naturalized American citizen, I love that my daughters will see that America’s first female vice president is the daughter of immigrants who came to America for opportunity -- just like my husband did.
Thanks to the incredible efforts of so many organizers, activists and volunteers here in the Georgia runoff elections, Joe and Kamala will enter office with a Democratic Senate. I’m so glad that my friends Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff will be joining them in Washington.
Real change and progress are on America’s horizon.
Georgia’s presidential and Senate runoff elections were crucial to these victories,
and they would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of grassroots organizers -- many of them women and people of color. OAD is proud to have stood with and supported these organizers -- and proud to have helped elect more women of color to the state legislature in the November elections.
Georgia delivered the Senate and the presidency to Democrats because of years of party building, organizing, and voter registration.
What happens on the state and local levels matters -- and here at OAD, we’re committed to lifting up new voices and growing the Democratic bench in our state in 2022 and beyond.
So congratulations to Joe and Kamala, congratulations to the amazing candidates starting new government roles across the country, and congratulations to you and everyone else who worked to make this day happen!
There is work still to be done, but today is a day to celebrate.
Thank you for all that you do,
Sarah Riggs Amico
