It’s a critical time for uncontacted tribes in Peru, and your support is urgently needed.
Several indigenous territories which uncontacted and recently-contacted tribes depend on for their survival have been awaiting legal protection for decades.
Now the government has reactivated logging, oil and gas concessions in these areas, and until the reserves are established further concessions are likely to be sold off.
The oil and gas lobby in the region is extremely powerful. The indigenous peoples of Peru need their allies all over the world to help them defend the lands of uncontacted tribes, to allow them to survive.
Jorge Pérez, the President of the regional indigenous organisation ORPIO, said: “We’re asking that [indigenous lands] not be sold off again, and that this danger to the uncontacted tribes be removed once and for all.”
Please act now for the most vulnerable peoples on the planet. Email the Peruvian government demanding that these indigenous territories finally be signed into law and permanently protected, and calling for the expulsion of extractive industries from indigenous territories.
It’s the only way uncontacted tribes will be able to survive and thrive.

Subject: Please act now for the most vulnerable peoples on the planet.
Dear President Sagasti, Minister Alejandro Neyra and Minister Eduardo Vega:
I am extremely concerned that the Peruvian government has delayed creating the five indigenous reserves that were first proposed between 15 and 27 years ago (R.I. Kakataibo, R.I. Yavarí-Tapiche, R.I. Yavarí-Mirim, R.I. Napo-Tigre y R.I. Sierra del Divisor Occidental).
Uncontacted tribes are the most vulnerable peoples on the planet and depend on their lands to survive. They’re Peruvian citizens with full rights and your government has a duty to defend their lives, their territories and their rights, in accordance with national and international laws.
Together with Peruvian indigenous organizations, I urge you to urgently finalize the creation of the five Indigenous Reserves, grant them permanent protection, and immediately expel all extractive companies from these territories, which includes stopping all oil and gas extraction.
These attacks on the indigenous peoples of Peru constitute an assault on the heart and soul of your nation and a threat to all humanity.
P.S. Unlike many NGOs, we reject government funding so our integrity is never compromised. We rely entirely on your donations to keep fighting for tribal peoples worldwide. Please donate today. Without you, there can be no Survival.
