Anyone who fails to affirm that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won a free and fair election has no authority to call for unity.
We’ve seen a lot of members of Congress call for “unity” in this moment, John.
But here’s the hard truth: Anyone who fails to affirm that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won a free and fair election has no authority to call for unity.
We can only unite based on a shared commitment to a democracy that works for all of us, no exceptions. That is why we are demanding accountability and supporting a slate of legislation to hold Trump and his enablers responsible for the disgraceful stain they’ve left on our democracy.
How we respond to these attacks will set a precedent for years to come. Can you rush a donation of $6 to help us pass the following legislation to demand accountability?
- Rep. Cori Bush’s House Resolution 25: Immediately after the Capitol was attacked, Rep. Bush introduced this resolution to expel every member of Congress who incited violence at the Capitol through their attempts to overturn the election. By inciting this attempted coup, they violated their Oath of Office and, per Section 3 of the 14th Amendment — they must be expelled.
- Rep. Jamaal Bowman’s Congressional Oversight of Unjust Policing Act (COUP Act): This bill will establish a commission to investigate the attack, along with the ties between white supremacists and Capitol Police. It’s critical we pass the COUP Act so we can determine whether there was coordinated effort to take over the United States government with violence and understand why our government was so outrageously and dangerously unprepared to deal with an attack we knew was coming.
- Rep. Ilhan Omar’s Articles of Impeachment: Immediately following the events on January 6, we joined Rep. Omar in calling for immediate impeachment. Although Trump has already been impeached, it was crucial to set a precedent and bring new articles forward. Through these efforts, Trump is now the only president to ever be impeached twice. We are now preparing to put pressure on the Senate to finally convict Trump.

Since white nationalists launched their failed attack on the Capitol, the GOP has insisted that we should just move on and focus on unity. For years, they claimed to be the party of “law and order” to advance their racist agenda — but when it comes to sedition, terror, and violent vigilantism they couldn’t care less.
Let’s make this clear: Unity is more than just a hashtag or a talking point. Unity starts with accountability and meaningful action to ensure that our votes and voices are represented in Congress.
True unity can only be forged when our leaders start serving their constituents in the same way women-led movements have worked together this past year to protect voters rights and pass critical COVID relief. Real unity is feminism in practice: rising above our differences to care for our communities and refusing to abandon each other to guarantee our collective survival.
Together, we can leverage the power of our women-led movement to organize so we can pass Rep. Bush and Rep. Bowman’s bills and meaningfully work toward unity.
If you’re with us in this fight, can you chip in $6, or anything you can, to fund this work?
Together,
Rachel Carmona
