Dear
Friend
--
Earlier today, we opened the doors to the Long Beach Convention
Center Vax Super Site. So far, we are mostly finished with vaccinating
healthcare workers, paramedics, firefighters, and nursing home and
clinic staff. We have also started to vaccinate folks 65 and older,
city emergency response workers, and police. These groups are going
smoothly with no major issues.
Vaccinating all of Long Beach is going to take some time, but
things are going well and this week we are starting to set
appointments for food and supermarket workers through their
worksites.
And starting next week, teachers and educators will be scheduled
through their school sites as well. The state requires us to first
vaccinate employees at Long Beach schools, but just as we’ve done with
other industries, if you live in Long Beach and cannot get vaccinated
through your employer, we will work to get you vaccinated.
If your group is up to be vaccinated, or if you want to be notified
when you are eligible for a vaccine please register at our new VaxLB
notification site here.
If appointments appear full, continue to check back frequently. Our
team will add new appointment options as we receive additional
vaccine.
Long Beach’s vaccination plan is solid. Our distribution sites are
strong, and our appointments are going smoothly. However, our ability
to provide vaccines is 100% dependent on vaccine availability and
state guidelines, so please bear with us as we work to do our best to
get everyone vaccinated.
I understand there are many questions, and many people want to get
vaccinated as quickly as possible. We want that for you too. In the
meantime, if you want to speak to someone on our Health team about the
COVID-19 vaccine, please email: [email protected].
Thank you and stay safe,
Mayor Robert Garcia
