A message from me to you --

Hi Indivisibles,

Tomorrow is a big day for our movement, so I wanted to send you a message personally. My name is Mariajose Urbina (Mari for short) -- you might know me from our political work or from my takes on Twitter, but nowadays I’m helping run the organization and ensuring that you have everything you need to be strategic and hold your members of Congress accountable.

Tomorrow is the culmination of four challenging, long years -- it’s Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ inauguration! They will be officially sworn into office at our nation’s Capitol alongside their family, special guests, and hundreds of thousands of supporters who unfortunately can’t be there in person but will be virtually present.

This joyous celebration comes at the cusp of a tumultuous end to Trump’s presidency. The latest right-wing uprisings and white-supremacist violence are happening precisely because conservatives recognize our wins and our strength as a movement, and they are terrified of losing the last vestiges of their power. We've seen reactions like this throughout our history, and while we must do everything we can to stamp it out, we can't let this take our joy and prevent us from celebrating our wins.

The last few days have been painful for our country -- many of you, like me, may have felt overwhelmed and deeply distressed as you sat watching the events that transpired two weeks ago.

But during the course of this election, Indivisibles built and supported a broad, multiracial coalition of everyday people (both nationally and in Georgia for the runoff) who -- even in a pandemic, separated by social distancing and thousands of miles -- banded together, got organized, and mobilized to get us here, and we should continue to celebrate each other every chance we get. In the darkest moments of our history, we rallied, protested, showed up at district offices, called our reps, knocked on doors -- pretty much anything we could think of to create change on the local, state, and national level. And we’ll continue to grow our organizing strength and collective power through 2021 and beyond.

Tomorrow belongs to the people -- to me, to you, to all of us. Our joys and celebrations (even if they are a bit delayed) cannot and will not be taken from us! Soak in the joy, soak in the history, take a deep breath, and know that we’re here for you and that our team will be providing updates throughout the day.

I can’t wait to see what the next four years hold for us now that the balance of power is even more in our favor.

In solidarity,
Mari Urbina
