John,
Tomorrow, as we witness history with the United States shattering a major
glass ceiling in seating the first-ever woman as Vice President, we must
continue to commit ourselves to the task of building a reflective
democracy.
We must make sure that elected officials at all levels of government are
reflective of the full diversity of America.
Throughout government at the local, state, and federal level, we know that
women are under-represented, even though they are just as qualified and
just as likely to win as men.
Data shows that a big part of the problem is that women are less likely
than men to be encouraged to run and most women need to be asked to run 3
to 4 times before they start to consider it.
If we want progressive women leaders, we first need to ask women to run.
Today is National Run for Office Day… and YOU SHOULD RUN!
Have you considered the impact you could have as an elected leader in your
community?
Here at Democracy for America, we have seen first hand that our members
have the power to generate change at all levels of office and in all 50
states.

encourage you to take the first step and find out what you CAN run for
based on where you live. Click here to get started with no obligation to
commit to run now.
DFA's CEO, Yvette Simpson, who is also a former City Councilmember
herself, made a brief video encouraging you to Run for Something too.
Check out it on our social media pages, like and share it, to spread the
word and encourage others to run too!

John, by sharing this video, or signing up to run for office
yourself, you will begin the process of electing the next generation of
progressives right in your own community.
And remember, whether you have experience like Ayanna Pressley had working
in a Congressional office or you have no government experience like
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had working as a bartender, your life experience
has value, your vision for America is real and your voice should be heard.
[ [link removed] ]That's why YOU should run for something.
You won't do it alone. They had help and so will you. All you have to do
is take the first step. Do it today.
Thank you for stepping up in this critical moment.
