Hello all!
In response to the planned fascist rally at the state Capitol building in Sacramento on Inauguration Day, DSA Sacramento is organizing a group of our members to hold a mutual aid event at Chavez Park starting at 11:00 AM. We will be providing water and food to those at the park, including our unhoused neighbors, with the dual intention to deter fascists from enacting violence on our neighbors as they have done in the past.
Any interested DSA member or their friends may join us, and bring food or other supplies of their own. Hot food is especially appreciated! We will be arriving at Cesar Chavez Park around 11am and will probably stay until around 2 or 3pm. For those joining us, please remember:
- We are still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, so masks and social distancing are required.
- If bringing food, try to make it food that can be served individually (e.g. sandwiches or burritos) as opposed to buffet-style food.
- While Cesar Chavez Park is not directly in the path of planned fascist action, we will still be in the vicinity. It is highly recommended to bring a friend.
While we respect the direct action of our anti-fascist comrades who will be meeting at Fremont Park (near the Capitol building) the same day, we understand that many of our members are not able to confront violent fascists directly. Our mutual aid event at Cesar Chavez Park is intended to provide an alternative way to support and protect our local community.
For those who also wish to support the direct anti-fascist action, a jail support and bail fund is available for donations at https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising/ncrbailfund.
If you have any questions about this event, you can contact us at [email protected].
Solidarity forever!
