The hard work behind Argentina’s vote to legalize abortion

[link removed][UNIQID]
Dear John,
Leading up to any historic law change are years of hard work by committed advocates, lawmakers and other professionals. This was certainly the case with Argentina’s historic vote on Dec. 30 to legalize abortion.

Argentine activists worked strategically for years, organizing street marches and campaigns to build public support for abortion rights. Various organizations also worked behind the scenes to strengthen the case for law change and help build the movement for abortion rights.

For years, Ipas has collaborated with partners in Argentina to build evidence on the quality and accessibility of existing abortion care (it was legal only in limited cases before), to train abortion providers, and to support them in becoming advocates for legalization.

“This is the kind of years-long strategic work required to make historic law change possible,” says Karen Padilla, Ipas senior program manager for Latin America.

When you support Ipas, you support this essential work to help build a more just world—and make historic change possible.

Now we’re focused on the future in Argentina, and we’ll be working hard alongside our partners to ensure all women have access to safe abortion.

Want to know more? We’ve just published a story that shares how Ipas and partners contributed to this historic law change—and what we’ll do next.
