Hi John,

Right now there are two bills in the Montana House of Representatives that endanger the rights of transgender students. One bill, H.B. 112, bans transgender students from participating in K-12 sports and the other, H.B. 113, would block them from receiving appropriate medical care.

Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential, and this means that transgender students in Montana must be free to participate on athletic teams consistent with their gender identity and be able to make important, private health care decisions without interference.

Here’s what you can do to stop H.B. 112 and H.B. 113 in Montana:

As a Montana citizen: Contact the Montana House Judiciary Committee and tell them to vote No on H.B. 112 and H.B. 113! You can do this by:

  1. Going to https://leg.mt.gov/web-messaging/
  2. After putting in your contact information, where the form says “Send Message to” selecting the “Committees” option
  3. Selecting “(H) Judiciary” from the dropdown menu
  4. Typing your message to the committee asking them to vote no on 112 and 113.

As a non-Montana citizen: Volunteer to phone bank! The National Equality Action Team (NEAT) is hosting phone banking trainings so that folks can help get the word out about these harmful bills to Montanans. Join us in making calls to in support of transgender students in Montana! RSVP at https://www.theneat.org/mt.html

Thank you for being an advocate on behalf of transgender students and all LGBTQ+ students. Together we can stop these harmful bills and continue to defend safe and inclusive schools for all.
