While approximately 750,000 Palestinians were dispossessed from their homes from 1948-1949, an estimated 160,000 remained in what became the State of Israel. A population that was always the indigenous majority now became a foreign minority, strangers in their ancestral homeland.

For more than 70 years since the beginning of the Nakba, the Palestinians who remained in Israel have been stripped of their national identity (i.e. Palestinian), and instead referred to in Zionist discourse as “Israeli Arabs” who face institutional discrimination in all fields of life, including politics, education, infrastructure, social services, and property rights. As a result of this attempt at the erasure of Palestinian identity and culture, these Palestinians have been forgotten and dismissed from mainstream political discourse, relegated to second- or third-class citizenship in Israel, and almost unspoken of in the Palestinian liberation struggle. The purpose of this webinar is to remember the significance of the Palestinian citizens of Israel to the broader Palestinian national project.
