Dear friend,

Let's be honest: it's already been a long year.

Here at NIRH, we are hopeful and resolved for brighter days ahead -- and look forward to the work of restoration and building in 2021. We are also present to the tremendous amount of tension, suffering, and grief so many across our country are feeling right now -- and the disproportionate impact the COVID-19 pandemic and white supremacist
violence have on Black, Brown, Indigenous, and other marginalized communities.

This week alone brings a day of remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; the end of the disastrous Trump-Pence administration; the historic inauguration of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris; and the 48th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion nationwide. This is a momentous week, and we know that all of these issues are deeply intertwined.

At NIRH, we're keeping our eyes on the horizon, looking forward to pushing proactive legislation over the finish line and centering those most impacted in the fight for reproductive freedom for all. No matter what happens at the federal level or at the Supreme Court -- good, bad, or ugly -- NIRH, our Action Fund, and our partners are working to secure wins at the state and local levels, where access to reproductive health care, including abortion, so often begins and ends.

As we move through these coming days, please take care of yourselves and those in your community as best you can. From the whole NIRH team, our thoughts are with you.

Warmly,
Andrea Miller
President, NIRH & NIRH Action Fund

P.S. The tension and trauma of the last year -- and certainly, the white supremacist, insurrectionist violence of January 6 -- have taken a toll on many of us. If you, a loved one, or a neighbor needs extra support, we encourage you to call the NAMI Helpline at 800-950-NAMI, or in a crisis, text "NAMI" to 741741.
