Dear John,

Ahead of Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Biden, the streets of Washington D.C. and state capitols are heavily defended. Armed protesters surfaced outside government buildings in many states, including Texas, Michigan and Oregon.

ADL wants you to be well-informed so you can speak out against hate and the normalization of extremism.

Oren Segal on 60 Minutes

This weekend, I went on 60 Minutes and our CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt was on the PBS News Hour. We discussed the dangerous new phase of American extremism we are now in, marked by the emergence of a new breed of extremist that has been fed a steady diet of disinformation, lies and conspiracy theories. They are mixing with established extremists and joined them in the deadly storming of the Capitol, which may have been the most predictable terrorist incident in modern American history.

We encourage you to watch these clips and to read our latest reports on the grave situation. We also hope you will visit our Center on Extremism page frequently for the latest information and analysis.

THE LATEST INFORMATION

You can play an important role in providing accurate information and analysis to your communities — friends, families, coworkers — so conspiracy theories and misinformation have a harder time getting a foothold.

Stay safe,
Oren Segal
