** CHAIR ADRIANA DE KANTER
SPEAKS AT EVENTS
------------------------------------------------------------

**
DEC Chair, Adriana de Kanter has been busy speaking on behalf of the Democrats of Indian River at two events this past week. She spoke at last week’s Vero Beach City Council meeting and at the Indian River County Delegation Legislative Session on Tuesday. Below are summaries of her participation and comments.

From Vero Beach City Council:

At the September 17^th Vero Beach City Council Meeting where a pro-NRA proclamation was being considered, City Councilmen Zudans, Howle, and Brackett signed the proclamation prior to hearing any public comment. It set a dangerous precedent in disregarding previously agreed upon city policies and ignoring the overwhelming majority of speakers who testified against the proclamation. DEC Chair, Adriana de Kanter, spoke out against the Vero Beach City Mayor’s proclamation as a citizen of Vero Beach saying, in part: "I respectfully ask you and your fellow members to remove this proclamation from the Tuesday, September 17^th agenda as it violates content fit for proclamations that are ceremonial in nature and do not embrace controversial content. Furthermore, there are plenty of real and important issues affecting the citizens of Vero Beach that I believe the City Council should spend their decision-making time on, not on the business of a city 3,000 miles away."

From Legislative Delegation:

IRC DEC Chair de Kanter spoke before Representative Erin Grall and Senator Debbie Mayfield on September 24^th at the Indian River County Delegation’s Legislative Session where she presented the Democratic Executive Committee’s Proclamation on Common Sense Gun Safety. She said to the representatives, "Today I am going to read to you a resolution from our local Democratic Party passed in 2017 on gun safety. It will be a little dated in that we have had several more mass shootings since then in places like El Paso, Texas, Dayton, Ohio, Midland, Texas and Gilroy, Ohio, but we believe it is important for you to hear from a large segment of your constituency as you head into the 2020 legislative session."

** FACT – FELLSMERE ACTION
COMMUNITY TEAM

**
Fellsmere has an ongoing team working hard to bring a community center to Fellsmere that would serve children and families. Our Operations Coordinator, Stacey Klim, is a member of FACT.

If you are interested in attending the FACT meetings, they are the third Friday of every month, at 9:00 a.m., at the Fellsmere City Hall.
