Hello Comrade,
Our chapter has seen tremendous growth over the last year. More and more working class Akronites are joining Akron DSA to fight for radical change and a better future for all of us. Now it's time to get to work.
There's a lot going on right now. We saw white supremacists march on the Capitol in the name of Donald Trump in an effort to undermine the 2020 presidential election. DSA National has put out a statement on Fighting the Far Right which we urge our fellow comrades to read. We are socialists. And we need a movement fighting against fascism.
Akron City Council will soon decide the fate of the La Due reservoir's mineral rights and has already given preliminary approval for this fracking deal. You can write to your councilperson here to urge they vote NO on this deal if you have not already. There will also be recurring organizer meetings every Saturday at 2p. This is open to all members interested in anti-fracking organizing.
Our housing townhall last weekend was insightful and gave us resources like Community Legal Aid’s
Weekly Zoom Clinic on Evictions (every Tuesday at 4p). If you missed it, we will have it on our Youtube channel soon!
On top of everything going on Akron DSA is holding
2021 Steering Elections! If you are interested in running for a position or would like to nominate someone you can fill out
this Google form. It’s
important that your email is up to date with your DSA membership to ensure your vote is counted.
Note: the registration deadline has been pushed back to Wednesday, January 20th at 10p EST so there's still time to add your name!
If you haven’t registered for our
general meeting yet, there’s still time. We will also be discussing recent events and upcoming campaigns such as the Nina Turner campaign for Ohio’s 11th Congressional District. We will be meeting at 7p on Thursday, January 21st via Zoom. All of the details will be sent to you once you register.
