Hi there,

Josh Hawley has lost allies, a book deal, and the respect of the American people. Now, he might lose his seat on the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Sen. Patrick Leahy, who also serves on the Judiciary Committee, called for the insurrection-instigator’s removal, saying, “[Hawley] wanted to subvert the will of the people, wanted to tell the whole world and the United States that we did not have an honest election. I can’t imagine any senator doing that and then serving on Judiciary.”

We’ll be honest, we couldn’t agree more. It’s the least of what Hawley deserves. And with a Democratic majority (and even some Republicans) moving swiftly to condemn the Capitol violence and those involved, it looks like Hawley might be truly held accountable.

But we can’t forget that Hawley was just another member of the conservative establishment until he saw Trump’s success with his base and started mimicking his rhetoric. That base isn’t going anywhere -- 45% of Republican voters support the storming of the Capitol -- and Hawley’s pandering to them might be a setup for bigger political ambitions.

Every second we’re not gearing up for the fight against Hawley and other Trump-copycats in elections to come is a waste of precious time. But we’ve hardly even been able to get started because we’re running low on funds.
