Friends,
As Martin Luther King Jr. said, “The time is always right to do what is right.”
So, let us not just reflect on Dr. King and his commitment to freedom and justice -- let us also honor his legacy with our actions by continuing the fight for racial equality in America.
That means it’s time to pass the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to strengthen voter protections and stop states from disenfranchising marginalized communities through voter purging, intimidation, gerrymandering, and more.
That means it’s time to create an economy that works for every American -- because as MLK knew, racial justice is economic justice. He spent the last years of his life organizing the Poor People’s Campaign, a multi-racial coalition calling for jobs, fair wages and working conditions, healthcare, housing, education, and human rights for all.
Our country will forever be thankful to Dr. King for his unwavering commitment to justice. The work continues -- and it starts with us.
Onwards,
Marie Newman
