Dear Ward 8 Residents,

Today we honor and celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We commemorate this great American leader that paved the way for us to have the opportunities that we enjoy today.

His speeches still resonate with our nation as if written in the present day. Our nation's history of systemic institutions built on racism, discrimination, and inequality continues to be uprooted and dismantled. The voices of Black America hold the line for equality. We have a mighty work ahead.

We use the birthday of Dr. King as a day of reflection, recognizing how far we have come to give us the momentum we need to forge ahead. In honoring Dr. King, we recognize his teachings and the lessons he left behind for so many.  To honor Dr. King, we will continue to hold the line for freedom and equality.

Regards,

Trayon White, Sr.
