John —
Today, we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose work as a reverend and civil rights leader continues to inspire movements for justice. Dr. King’s message was often one of hope and inspiration, focused on the need to push forward and fight for what’s right no matter the hardships.
Dr. King emphasized the importance of pushing forwards and remaining hopeful, famously saying “If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Despite the unrelenting setbacks and disappointments the civil rights movement faced, Dr. King never lost hope.
Hope is the foundation of our fight for a better world. Today, let’s uplift Black voices and commit ourselves to fighting fearlessly for justice, in every sense of the word.
We have a long way to go, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. A new wave of progressive reform is building here in New York and around the country. I know we have the hope and strength to press forward.
Stay strong and keep looking ahead,
Lindsey
