Friend,
When Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. addressed a crowd of more than 200,000 people during the March on Washington, he said:
"Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of God's children. It would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment."
Nearly 60 years later, that urgency is still with us. The events that took place on January 6 told the world what we already knew: America has yet to face its original sin of slavery. The attack on our Capitol was fueled by fear, fear of the "other", fear of progress, and fear of change.
Today, we remember that for the first time in American history someone who preaches from the same pulpit as Reverend Dr. King will soon be the first Black senator to represent Georgia. We remember that a Jewish man who was mentored by the late and great Rep. John Lewis will be senator, too.
Dr. King said it would be fatal to overlook the urgency of the moment. We will keep marching forward, toward justice, accountability, and a democracy that is representative of the people. We hope you continue to march by our side, because it is through collective action that we win.
Thank you,
The Collective Team
