Today, we honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s life and legacy and his commitment to justice and service with a day of reflection, reverence, celebration, activism, and service.
Service is a fitting way to start to rebuild and reunite our communities and the country we all love. If you are able to, I hope you will take part in this National Day of Service and make a difference in your communities. Find an opportunity to volunteer here. If there are no events listed in your area, food banks and shelters need more donations than ever. Over a thousand cars lined up for food last week at a food distribution event in my district. The struggle for families to get by is still very real.
Although this MLK Day is different from years past, it is still important that we take a moment to reflect on where we are as a country and where we can still go. Every day we take more steps toward realizing the America Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. so diligently believed in. Despite all of the injustices he faced, he never gave up. He kept fighting.
Keep checking in on each other, and keep fighting. We're still in this together.
