Honor his legacy by volunteering on this National Day of Service.

Hello,

Today is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In honor of the holiday, I wanted to share a few words on what this day — and what Dr. King — means to me.

Dr. King said, "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." Those words have been on my mind a lot these past few weeks.

On January 6, we saw the culmination of four years of leadership that spread hatred and lies when a white supremacist mob violently broke into the U.S Capitol. It was a reminder that we have a long way to go to live up to Dr. King's dream.

But Dr. King showed just how much we can change if we stand united for equality and peace. This past year, we saw Americans everywhere carrying on his legacy: marching for Black lives and demanding justice. It's our responsibility to stomp out hatred wherever we see it and reform our institutions so everyone is treated fairly under the law.

Just two days from now, President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris will be inaugurated. Then, they'll get to work bringing compassion and justice back into our policy and begin the hard work of building back better.

None of this would be possible without the unwavering support and dedication of supporters like you. Together, we have come such a long way, but we still have so far to go.

So today, I ask you to do your part in your own community. Find an opportunity to take part in today's National Day of Service now.

Thank you,

Lavora Barnes
