Friend, today I am reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy and how it can guide us as we continue the fight for justice and equality in a time filled with so much anger and division.

As I watched the attack on our Capitol on January 6 by insurrectionists from within our own country, I was reminded of the incredible courage and tenacity Dr. King showed in the face of so much vitriol and violence from his fellow Americans. Dr. King never gave into fear and hatred; instead he was a living example of the better world he hoped to create.

Dr. King showed us how when everyday people come together to fight for a righteous cause, they can start a movement to reshape our world. His influence could be felt in the streets of thousands of U.S. cities in all 50 states as Black Lives Matter protesters marched to condemn systemic racism and demand change. The movement spread to cities on every continent, and the protests turned to policy with policing reform measures introduced or enacted at the city, state, and federal levels.

We also got to witness the power of people coming together to fight for a better America when we ended Mitch McConnell’s Senate majority and elected a new president who will put our country first. Much of that was thanks to dedicated organizers and activists who, like Dr. King, fought tirelessly for their ideals.

Dedicated organizers like those at Black PAC, whose work to mobilize African-American voters in Georgia were instrumental in flipping the Senate. As we celebrate progress, we must acknowledge how much work is left to be done and continue to support the organizations that make it happen. If you can, chip in now and your donation will be split between Democratic Majority Action and Black PAC to support efforts to elect candidates who will live up to our values of equality and dignity for all: [link removed]
