Today, we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement.

His groundbreaking work in the 1950s and 60s shaped America into the country we know today. During this time of national uncertainty, I’m thinking about his dream for this nation.

Dr. King told us what America could be, and I believe in his dream. I’m determined to make his dream, and the dream of millions Americans, a reality.

This summer, we saw and participated in the resurgence of the Civil Rights Movement through the Black Lives Matter protests. We still have work to do to make this country equal, fair, and just for all of us. This is the American dream.

This week, we are witnessing history as Vice President-elect Kamala Harris is sworn in as the first Black American and first woman to hold the second highest office in the land. Furthermore, I’m honored to be working alongside the most diverse class of Congress in our history.

We are diverse. We are dynamic. We are hopeful for the future.

So today, please take a moment with me to remember the work of Dr. King and others like Congressman John Lewis who fought diligently for our country.

Tomorrow, join me in continuing to carry their torch for the America we can achieve by acknowledging our flaws and working together to fix them.

Yours,

Josh
