We are going to get through the coronavirus outbreak together. If you are experiencing symptoms or are looking for more information, you can visit the website of the CDC or the Illinois Department of Health. We are closely monitoring the situation and its effects on the people of Illinois and our nation as we work together to keep our families and communities safe.

John,

Today, we remember a giant of non-violent peaceful struggle for the oppressed and the poor.

Dr. King taught that life's most persistent and urgent question is: “What are you doing for others?” and it showed us the power of organizing and solidarity to achieve lasting victories in the struggle against racial and economic injustice.

Dr. King wrote: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere... Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” This quote has been present with me since I heard Dr. King deliver it. His words have given me strength to engage in struggles that aren’t won in a single battle but require that we never stop striving for greater consciousness and the courage to achieve.

There is no better way to honor Dr. King than to continue working every day for our common dream of a country where progress, fairness, and opportunity are possible for all Americans. Together, we will build equity and opportunity, and never leave anyone behind.

¡Sí se puede!
