In the last 12 months, our country has faced challenges we never expected to see in our lifetimes -- and certainly not all at the same time.
In times like these, we can turn to the wisdom of one of America's greatest leaders, who led a movement for equality and justice against great odds and opposition.
As we honor the legacy and life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today, his words still ring loud and clear.
"The time is always right to do what is right."
Dr. King gave his life to the fight for equality. He knew what must be done, and he had faith we could do it.
Today, too, we know what needs to be done. We must address centuries of injustice by uplifting people of color disproportionately harmed by our system. We must make an all-out, unified effort to beat this virus. And we must provide substantial, long-lasting relief for the millions of Americans struggling to make ends meet.
And friends, I have faith that we can do it.
Together, we will build a brighter future and create a world that lives up to Dr. King's dreams.
Yours truly,
Haley Stevens
