Friend,

Throughout his career, Dr. King was focused on breaking down stereotypes to combat racism and other intertwined injustices such as economic inequality. Marginalized groups -- including many people who struggle with hunger -- are often stereotyped about their race, sexual orientation, or economic situation, and it is through telling the stories of those individuals that stereotypes are often broken down.

Shortly before he was assassinated, Dr. King said: “What does it profit a man to be able to eat at an integrated lunch counter if he doesn't have enough money to buy a hamburger?”

That is one reason why Hunger Free America works to elevate the voices of those with lived experiences of hunger and poverty. Today and tomorrow, we are hosting virtual events covering a variety of topics Dr. King stood for and are intertwined with the civil rights movement: land justice, housing justice, food justice, health justice, economic inequities, human rights, mutual aid, and more.

We are dedicated to honoring the complex and unfinished nature of Dr. King’s work and our role in continuing his legacy. Will you join us in the fight for justice and equality by making a contribution of $10, $15, or $20 today? ([link removed])

We hope you’ll join us through philanthropy as we celebrate our 20th Annual MLK Serve-a-Thon and reflect on the depth and complexity of the movement Dr. King helped to lead.

Make your MLK Day a day ON, not off, by giving a recurring contribution in Dr. King’s honor to further our mission of fighting injustice and aspiring to a society without hunger. ([link removed])

Thank you,
Joel
