Martin Luther King Jr. Day is usually thought of as a celebration of the work of a man in a pivotal part of American history — far removed from the progress of the 21st Century.
Here at The Southern Strategy, though, we know that though Dr. King lived more than 50 years ago, the fight for racial justice is very much ongoing.
The events of the past year have put on display the true state of American democracy — one of wanton inequality and disgusting hate. From police brutality to voter suppression to this month’s insurrection, it is clear that America has a long way to go before we realize Dr. King’s dream of equality — and though our journey will not be easy, we can learn from Dr. King, who exemplified perseverance in the face of adversity.
It is up to us to continue to fight for the causes that Dr. King championed and ultimately gave his life for, and here at the Southern Strategy, we promise to do just that. We hope that you will take this day — and many more — to reflect on Dr. King’s work and the importance of standing up for what is right.
Dr. King’s work is far from done — it is up to us to continue his legacy and fight for a version of America we have yet to achieve.
Thank you for all you do,
All of us at The Southern Strategy
