For Martin Luther King Jr., the struggle for a more just and equal future extended across race, class, religion, and gender. At his death, he was preparing to stand in solidarity with striking sanitation workers demanding safer conditions and a better life for them and their families.

COVID-19 exposed how far we have to go to live up to Dr. King’s vision. As communities of color struggle with higher rates of infection and unemployment, and as millions of Americans are left to fend for themselves, it’s imperative that we remember Dr. King’s emphasis on the urgency of now.
